Some days, there’s a lot to carry. Responsibilities, worries and the pressure to keep going can leave little space to notice how we’re feeling.
This World Mental Health Day, we’re inviting you to take a moment for yourself. You don’t need a perfect routine or a whole afternoon free. Sometimes, it starts with a pause.
Small acts of care won’t solve every challenge you’re facing, but they may offer a little comfort and help lift you through a difficult day.
1. Take twenty seconds to breathe
Let the day wait for a moment.
Find a comfortable position, soften your shoulders and allow yourself to breathe naturally. Notice the air moving in and out, without trying to force or change anything.
There’s nothing to achieve here. Just a little space to pause.
2. Notice what’s around you
When your mind feels busy, bring your attention to something simple: the light through the window, the sounds nearby or the feeling of your feet on the floor.
You don’t have to push your thoughts away. Give yourself a moment to notice where you are.
3. Check in with yourself
Ask yourself: how am I feeling today? What do I need?
The answer might be rest, company or a break from something that feels overwhelming. You might not know the answer yet, and that’s okay too.
Try to make room for how you feel, without judging yourself for it.
4. Let someone in
You don’t have to have the right words to reach out.
A message to a friend, a conversation with someone you trust or simply saying “I’m finding things difficult” can be a place to start.
If you need more support, speaking with your GP or a mental health professional is also an option. Small rituals can sit alongside that support.
5. Make space for a small act of care
Choose something that feels manageable today. Sit quietly with a warm drink, step outside or take a break from your to-do list.
It doesn’t need to look a certain way. What matters is giving yourself permission to have that moment.
These moments won’t solve everything. But they may offer comfort, help you feel more connected and bring a little lightness to your day.
This World Mental Health Day, take a moment to check in with yourself, and with someone you care about.
